Sometimes that entailed a bit of truth-bending, but whatever. He was able to talk his way into whatever he needed and deftly talk his way out of trouble as well. He seemed to have been blessed not only with exceptional analytical capabilities, and probably an eidetic memory, but an impressively immense set of cojones. The company was founded in 2002 to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets. It might have seemed like visiting another planet when Musk split his home country of South Africa as a teen and headed to North America, anything to get away from an abusive upbringing. Here is what it says on the SpaceX website SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft. In Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future biographer Ashlee Vance gives us a picture of both the dreams and the man, peering back to where Musk began, describing his journey from then to now, looking at how he is impacting the world today, and gazing ahead to where he wants to go. But, like Jobs, and Stark for that matter, he might be an acquired taste on a personal level. There is no question that Musk is a special individual, someone with BIG dreams and the drive, talent, and money to make them happen. Elon Musk is not exactly a name that rolls easily off the tongue, like say Tony Stark, the fictional person to whom he is most often compared, or even Steve Jobs, a real-world visionary, whose mantle Musk now wears. We are members of his family and his clan. We are psychically bound to Okonkwo, we live his life, feel his emotions and think his thoughts. "This novel gains its power from its restraint. Achebe does not only capture life in a pre-colonial African village, he conveys the tragedy of the loss of that world while broadening our understanding of our contemporary realities. With more than 20 million copies sold and translated into fifty-seven languages, Things Fall Apart provides one of the most illuminating and permanent monuments to African experience. Told through the fictional experiences of Okonkwo, a wealthy and fearless Igbo warrior of Umuofia in the late 1800s, Things Fall Apart explores one man's futile resistance to the devaluing of his Igbo traditions by British political andreligious forces and his despair as his community capitulates to the powerful new order. It is a classic narrative about Africa's cataclysmic encounter with Europe as it establishes a colonial presence on the continent. Things Fall Apart is the first of three novels in Chinua Achebe's critically acclaimed African Trilogy. More than a collection of classically gothic horror, a darker undercurrent runs through uncle Montague’s stories, inexorably dragging something dreadful to the surface, something that will make his uncle’s warning ring very true.Ĭhris Priestley has done a great job – I absolutely loved this book, devouring it in two sessions. Sitting by the fire in the study of his old and very dark house, the enigmatic uncle Montague regales young Edgar with fantastic stories of wonder and terror, bringing the oddities lining the walls to life, while the wind tugs at the shutters and strange thumps resound from the deserted rooms above. Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror is a deliciously dark and wonderfully macabre collection of stories that deserve to be read by candlelight. It seems quite fitting that I’m here writing this with thunder stalking the night and dead leaves whispering their secrets in the backyard. Did it really need to take up that much of the book? Or better yet did the trek through hell really require the second half. So we have the mystery portion in the first half the novel where they are trying to figure out what's going on with this 'possessed' boy. I felt like there was a bit of that throughout. The entry action scene of Stark and Vidoqc robbing a house for an item that really ended up being of no import to the story as well as the demon that attacks them outside the house. The entire reading experience to me this time around was completely lackluster. I know some people will probably be shocked that I have such a low opinion of it. I have to start out that I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, so this being book three I was expecting great things. WARNING - There are SPOILERS in this review!
